Being here on work placement in Tenerife, I learned a lot about their culture, their language, types of food and the people. While working in Lazer Area 52 I learned skills such as communicating with people who have very little English. I also learned to do things on my own after only a week there, and learned how to use the cash register in a different language. I would love to come back here next year as it is absolutely beautiful. The scenery around Tenerife is just so eye catching. During my days off I went to some amazing places such as Santa Cruz and Siam Park. I saw special types of animals, and different types of flowers, the types of which we don't have in Ireland. This experience has been amazing and I have learned that I can take care of myself more now and feel more confident and independent.
Overall, I feel that the Erasmus+ placement was worth it overall. While the area was very different to home, it was rather nice to visit a different type of environment for a change. I learned during my work placement to take more of an initiative than I would normally, provided that the situation is suitable for it and also to be a bit more confident in general. I learned how to use various appliances such as lighting settings and a computer application specifically designed for use in areas similar to my workplace and I became experienced in instructing people on how to take part in the activities, such as laser tag, available at my work place.
Working alongside native Spanish speakers was also interesting and I was glad to answer any questions they had regarding English as well as telling them the definition of various English words. In the end, despite some minor issues, the experience was very much worth it and I would be very interested in working abroad and I am now more confident in my ability to work abroad as a result of having been on this work placement.

I really enjoyed Tenerife and had a fabulous time. I loved my work placement and my work colleagues. I learned how to pull pints and make Spanish coffees. Overall, it was very beneficial and rewarding and without a shadow of a doubt I would definitely go back. Thanks to everyone at GTI and Leargas formaking this amazing experience possible.
I was chosen by my college 'Galway Technical Institute' to undertake a placement on the Erasmus+ Programme 2016. Overall, I washonoured to be given the opportunity to have the experience of working abroad and also living abroad in a European country. During my time in Tenerife I learnt many new skills at my work placement and I also got to learn a lot about the local culture of South Tenerife.
Whilst I was working in CIT SUR tourist information office, I had the opportunity to learn the local Spanish language. The chosen work place for me was ideal as I got to learn several different skills and improve my present skills. I was constantly greeting customers from all over the world which benefited me hugely and helped my confidence enormously and on my second day into my workplace, I had to open up the office and prepare the office for a new day. My work colleagues were so friendly towards me and never left me out of any task they had to do. By having this experience working abroad, it has given me a wide range of opportunities to work abroad in other countries in the future.
My communications skills has improved dramatically since I started my work experience as I had to communicate with all my work colleagues and customers. I am delighted to say I can now speak Spanish very well, as I have held a conversation with my manager in work. I have gained new qualifications out of this work experience and my IT skills and professional skills have improved a lot also. If I completed this work experience in Ireland, I wouldn’t have the same experience as I have had in Tenerife. I will carry the experience with me for the rest of my life. I am forever grateful for being given the opportunity to represent Galway Technical Institute as part of the Erasmus+ Programme 2016.

Before I set off on my new adventure to Tenerife, I thought to myself that this would be a great new experience for me. When I got over to Tenerife I was introduced to my new workplace and to the new people that I would be working with for the next three weeks and during the those three weeks I really enjoyed my new work placement because not only was I working with different people but I was working in a different environment.
I really enjoyed my work because I gained skills and also gained more confidence in myself, that I didn't really have before by interacting with co-workers but also interacting with customers and explaining to them about all the activities that was involved in my work. It also helped me develop my communications, making my interaction skills a lot stronger because I had to interact with people on a daily basis in very different ways. I think that this placement has definitely helped me enhance my job applications and will also help me with future employment. So by doing this Erasmus+ placement it was definitely beneficial and I would highly recommend anyone to sign up and apply for this, as this chance doesn't come along that often.
