This photo includes my work colleagues and I having some time to talk and get to know each other better. They brought me around Los Cristianos exploring that part of the town. It was wonderful. Then we went for lunch in a 5 star restaurant and the food there was amazing.

Monday: The start of our final week in sunny Tenerife. Today I arrived at work quite early so before opening the office I done some work for my manager. When 9.00AM came, I opened the office doors and set everything up. As the day passed by, my manager and I were a little shocked as there wasn´t many customers in the morning at all. Luckily for me as I was kept busy as I got to do all my work and prepare for a tour with a primary school on tuesday. When it began to get busy, I helped customers to my best ability and they were all very thankful for my help. The day came to an end at work so I checked the brouchures and put out more so tourists can access them while the office is closed. I closed the door and switched off all the computers also. I headed off back to my apartment and chilled by the pool with my friends.
Tuesday: At work today we were very busy as we had a tour in a hotel with the Los Cristiano primary school. The kids were delighted! The hotel was fabulous. It had six floors and an amazing lounge room on the sixth floor with an outstanding view over the beach. I helped with minding the children and ensuring they were happy at all times. I thoroughly enjoyed my day out and I got free lunch also!! The Spanish I have been learning for the previous 3 weeks really came into practice as the teachers of the children didn´t speak much English except one teacher. I learnt her some English and Irish, and she learnt me simple words in Spanish. When the first tour came to an end, my colleague Laura and I walked down to a restaurant called ´Mamma Mia´. We met our manager Isabella there and continued the tour with her. I found both tours very interesting as I learnt a lot about the culture of Tenerife. When the two tours were completed, we headed back to the CUT SUR office and were busy as usual. All the CIT SUR 50th Anniversary invitations had arrived and I started putting all of them into envelopes, bearing in mind there was 500 invitations. When I was finished work, I went back to the apartment and I was very tired after a long day at work. I just chilled for the evening until my friend Ruta arrived home and we went for a stroll. That was day two over and done with. Wednesday: When I arrived in work, I had to go to the post office for my manager and post a letter. When I had that completed, I opened the office, put out more brochures and maps of Tenerife. I filled the newspaper rack also. After I had everything organised I finished off the invitations and then I had to make dividers for the 8 other places that CIT SUR collaborate with. After I had completed that task, I greeted customers all day and helped them with any issues they may have had about Tenerife. I had to email a teacher from the tour with the Los Cristiano primary school all the photos I took as she asked me to do so. Then I went to the store room to leave a lot of folders up there that were left in the office. I prepared any equipment I needed to bring with me on my tour to the South Airport tomorrow. When my work day was over, I checked outside the office for brochures and papers so tourists can access them while the office is shut. I closed the door and shut the blinds, and I switched off all the computers etc. I left work and headed off to the shops to buy my family and friends gifts. I enjoyed my walk to the shops as the scenery along the beach side was beautiful. In the evening, my friends and I headed down to play a game of pool and have a drink at the bar in our apartments. When I went back up to my room, I couldn´t believe my 3 weeks in Tenerife were coming to an end with only 4 days left. It went by so quickly!! I will certainly miss Tenerife and its amazing weather as it hasn´t rained once in all the 3weeks but I am glad to go home to my family. Thursday: Today I go on a visit to the Airport with my work colleague Laura. It was an early start as I got picked up at 8.30AM aty my apartment. We headed off to the airport and went straight to the security desk for our tour passes. Then we met the group of adolescents and brought them on the tour. It was a really interesting day for me as I got to learn a lot about planes etc. I also got to sit in the pilots seat but unfortunately due to security reasons no photos were allowed to be taken. I got to see the side of an airport that workers see. It was amazing!! Today was my second last day at work and i thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. I also got to see a Falcon on our bus tour around the airport. AAfter our tour was complete, we headed back to the CIT SUR office and we were kept very busy until home time. Friday: Today is my last day at work and without a doubt I will miss it. Only 3 days until home time. I can honestly say I am delighted to have had the opportunity to come over to Tenerife and complete 3 weeks work experience as the experience I have and will have for the rest of my life is unbelievable. I know for certain that I would not have the same experience in Ireland as I do here. My last day at work was hectic, from opening hour I was constantly on the go preparing everything for CIT SUR´s 50th Anniversary in April. I will certainly miss the laughs I had on a daily basis with my manager Isabella and my work colleague Laura, who I accompanied all the tours with. Today went rapidly fast and my last day at CIT SUR office was over, I closed the office and shut down the computers for the last time, and then headed off back to my apartment. Saturday: Saturday most of just all took it easy and laid out in the sun to get a colour. It was a nice relaxing day after a long 3 weeks of intense working. We all sat by the pool and talked about all the different memories we had over the past 3 weeks. It was emotional but funny at the same time. We were happy to leave tomorrow but we will definitely miss sunny Tenerife. Sunday: Today is the day we head of back to our home country Ireland. As we all packed our suitcases and prepared to set off to the airport, we all got excited to be going back to our families. It will be a long day/night ahead of us with a 4 and a half hour plane journey to Dublin and then approximately 3hours bus journey home to Galway. Without a doubt I will miss Tenerife and it´s fabulous weather and sceneries. It was the best 3 weeks of my life and I have made some amazing friends out of this Erasmus+ Programme. I will certainly carry this experience with me every where I go in life. Now its back to college work we go!!! -Aoife- As these past three weeks have flown by, I have really enjoyed myself here both in terms of work and also getting to enjoy the different sights and experiences. In regards to work, I really liked my workplace and got along with the people I worked with, so I will really miss it. On my last day before I finished I got to do par-ascending again because I really enjoyed it the first time.
During my work experience I was mostly doing office work. This included completing tasks like emailing and texting clients and also interacting with customers and also helping them with wetsuits and life jackets. The more I interacted with customers the more my confidence grew so I was very happy with that. I'm definitely going to miss it here but I will definitely consider coming back here in the future. I'm kind of upset that's it's our last day and i'm shocked at how fast the three weeks gone, but I'm also happy to be going home to see my family again. Although I enjoyed the new and different meals I had here, you can never beat mammy's dinner. Monday: Today I opened the office alone and put out any brochures that were gone into the correct places. I done the same with all the newspapers and filled them up again throughout the day. All day I was constantly meeting and greeting customers. I was helping them with any queries they may have had. When there was no customers in the office, I got to learn more Spanish that my manager had given me that morning. I then went to the storeroom and brought down more brochures and folders to the office. I sent an email in Spanish also to a primary school that we were bringing on a tour with information what the children should bring with them. When closing time came, I checked outside the office to ensure that there was enough brochures and papers left outside for tourists to access them while the office was closed. I then shut the door and closed down all the computers and cleaned the office. When i was finished in the office, I headed back to my apartment and enjoyed the sunshine.
Tuesday: I headed off early for work today and took my time walking to work. I thoroughly enjoyed the scenery along the beach early in the morning. When I got to work, I opened the office, set up all the computers, put out the newspapers etc. I done some research on the internet and learnt more Spanish. Today, I had to close the office early as my manager asked me to do so but I continued my work inside the office until I had completed my 6 hours of work. In the mean time I got all my work for that day done. I went to the storeroom then to get folders full of old newspapers up to the previous 50years for CIT SUR 50th Anniversary. It was amazing how old the papers were but they were all kept in such great condition. My day at work came to an end and I headed off home. I then met with my friends and went swimming. Wednesday: Today was another early morning at work as I had planned to be in work early so my manager could do some Spanish revision with me before I opened the office at 9.00AM. I greeted customers today along with organising the office. I went up to a photo shop for my manager and communicated in Spanish to the cashier which I was delighted with myself for doing so. This Erasmus+ Programme is outstanding as not only have I got to experience a completely different culture but I also have the opportunity to learn another language. In the evening I met with our teacher and Spanish teacher as I had to discuss an issue with them as I was down two days of work so I had to work in a different workplace for two days. It was sorted very quickly. Thursday: I had today off as my office closed for two days over the Easter. I got up early and took a stroll along the beach along with a swim. It was so refreshing! My friend Fintan and I headed down to the shops and done some gift shopping for our families. After we relaxed beside the pool in our apartments and waited for the others to come home from their day at work. Thursday night, the entire group met with our teacher and went out for dinner. After dinner, we decided to go to an Irish bar for a few drinks. I really enjoyed the night. Friday: Today I had to work in a different workplace as my office was closed due to Easter. I completed my 6 hours at AREA 52 laser tag in Los Cristianos. I really enjoy my day there as I had to prepare the place for a birthday party that was on later in the day. I also helped out with putting out the tables outside the workplace and organising the store when opened. I cleaned tables and put up balloons. I was very luckily also as I got to learn how to pull a pint of beer. The day came to an end very quickly so I headed back to the apartments with my friend Peter. Later in the evening, we met our teacher and played mini golf as a group. It was really good fun. After mini golf, we headed back to the Irish bar with our teacher and enjoyed our time there as he was leaving early saturday. Saturday: This was my day off so myself and Fintan headed off to Siam park. It was the best day i've had since I arrived in Tenerife. The water park was amazing. It is definitely something I will recommend to anyone who is going to Tenerife. It has amazing facilities for both young and old with its amazing artificial beach and waves. It was worth the money. In the evening, my friends and I all went down to the bar in our apartments for ´Happy Hour´. We still thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and got to know each other a lot better. Sunday: I was working in AREA 52 again today which I found really enjoyable as I got to prepare for two birthday parties so I was quite busy all day setting up the workplace. I got to prepare all the tables and put up all the decorations. I greeted customers throughout the day also. I was kept extremely busy all day so the day went very fast. When I had completed my work, Fintan and I headed down to catch a bus back to our apartments. I went for a swim when I got home with my friends Eddie, Sinead, Shauna and Ailbhe. That was the end of week two in Sunny Tenerife. Today, I walked to work knowing I was going to be on Spanish TV. I arrived at work and my boss told me that the TV crew were going to be at my work place between 10-11 am. I was nervous as I was never on TV before so the nerves were getting to me. I was meant to be doing fly boarding but I did par-ascending instead.
The TV crew finally arrived and Marivi told me that I would have to explain to them about my job and how I was feeling about doing par-ascending. I explained to them about my job and how Tenerife is a big change from Ireland and that I was feeling nervous and excited. We all went out on a speedboat and prepared to be lifted up into the air. Once we were hooked up to the parachute we started to glide back and to be honest I was kinda 'freaking out' as it was my first time doing par-ascending, but once we were up in the sky I realised that I had nothing to worry about and that I was nervous over nothing because we were just gliding up in the air. I really enjoyed the view. It was amazing I could see everything and anything. Overall I really enjoyed it and would definitely do it again and also recommend anyone to do it. Today at work I am confident in saying that I believe that I am well versed in the procedures involved in opening the place up each day. There is only a minor security element involved in opening the place up for the day and that is the moving and then locking of the (very heavy) quad bike from inside the building to the outside. All other tasks involved in opening up the premises are similar to the opening of other places, nonetheless it ensures that the business is run successfully each day.
-Peter Watts Today I went on a tour with my work place to the Jungle Park. Laura and I were leading the tour along with an assistant of Jungle Park who was giving us and the children information about the park. It was very interesting as I got to see all types of animals such as sea lions, Lions, and all different birds. I also got to watch the shows that were being shown by sea lions and parrots. I went to see the Canary birds doing a show too. Also I got to hold a bird and feed a parrot out of my hand. I have gotten a lot of experience from this Erasmus trip that I wouldn't have got in Ireland which I am really grateful for as I will have this experience for the rest of my life .
In the CIT SUR tourism office I am constantly learning and improving my Spanish. I am constantly meeting and greeting customers on a daily basis in both English and German language. Also I'm speaking little bits in Spanish to customers and mainly to my manager. I had a revision test in work today so my manager could see how my Spanish is improving rapidly day by day. If I was in Ireland on work experience, I wouldn't be speaking any other language but English. This week in work, I am working on more Spanish sentences so I aim to be speaking to Spanish customers that come into the office by the following week. I am also opening the office each morning and closing the office in the evenings. I am constantly ensuring that everything is kept in a neat and tidy order such as brochures and desktops. I take count of every customer that comes into the CIT SUR tourism office so at the end of the day, I count the total amount of customers we have had on daily basis. - Aoife - Today, provided me with an opportunity to learn a couple of things regarding my work. First of all, I learned to double check what route it is that I need to take to work as I ended up taking a wrong turn and becoming lost, only managing to get to work by wandering around until I was lucky enough to find it.
The next things that I learned were related to several security measures inside of my workplace, Area 52. First of all, there are cameras viewable by the staff of the laser arena which allows them to check on what the people currently participating in a game of laser tag are doing. Next are several rules related to the general security and well being of participants. No running, climbing or physical contact is allowed. Also, an extra button must be pressed on the laser gun before it will shoot so as to prevent people who may accidentally surprise each other from hitting each other with their guns as a result of a natural reaction. I found this rule to be particularly clever as it reduces the likelihood of participants flailing their arms about while holding their guns as a result of having to have two hands on the gun in order to fire it. Overall the experience was enlightening, learning how to multitask several jobs and being aware of different job roles, but with the event of me becoming temporarily lost, I must ensure that I always double check my particular route before travelling it again. -Peter Watts Our first day we finally arrived in Tenerife we were only in the airport and we loved it already just because it was a different scenery
and we knew there was going to be more changes ahead of us, different places, different challenges and also different opportunities and also we seen the price difference in merchandise between here and Ireland. We finally arrived at our hotel, we got our Introduction and we got settled in to our new rooms and that was the end of day one. This next one is from Fintan: Today was my first day at work I was really excited. Michael our new boss turned out to be half Irish, he was really welcoming and nice he showed us around area 52 and let myself and peter have a game of laser tag. He showed us what we will be doing for the duration our work he asked us to set up a laser tag tournament and to design a poster for the tournament to leave in pubs and shops to get people to come and play laser tag. He took pictures of me and peter with laser guns because he asked to redesign the brochers to put the picture he took of peter and I on the brocher. I felt that I learned alot of new skills that I didn't have before. |
