Today, I walked to work in the bright sunshine with a skip in my step, ready to try new and interesting things. When I got to work, I was delighted to find that I had a massage booking for that day. It was a 50 minute aloe Vera massage which was new and different as we have no use for an aloe Vera massage in Ireland really with our lack of sun! I was taught how to set up the room which are called cabins here, how to adjust the temperature of the room, how to play the music, adjust the lighting and also the products that were to be used. I completed a full body massage on a very nice lady who also gave me a tip!! This gave me a real boost of confidence that I needed for being in a strange place. When I walked my client out, I was surprised and delighted to find that I had another aloe Vera massage booking!! This was an 80 minute massage which was quite tiring but very enjoyable. I got to work with clients that had different medical conditions which was very beneficial broadening my working experience. Following my massages, I was shown how the staff close down the salon for the night. It was a really good day.
Cara and I also decided to go to Siam Park, a water park with lots of fun activities and rides which was a great treat! We also went horse riding which was amazing. The trek was up a mountain that was 600m high, higher than the height that incoming planes fly on at! The views were beautiful and we were accompanied by Scooby-Doo the dog and Pickle the pig. We are really enjoying our Tenerife experience so far!

On the 13th of February we shed our wooly jumpers and began our journey south, to sunny Tenerife. We were very excited and a tad nervous, but who wouldn't be with the unknown waiting for us. Upon arrival we were met by our hosts at the airport and went onto a bus which would take us to our accommodation. I was very amused by the fact it was now late in the evening and the air was still warm and i didn't need to wear sleeves! There wasn't a wooly hat or fashionable scarf in sight. When we arrived at our accommodation a few of us were exhausted and quite hungry!
We couldn't wait to get out there and experience the culture, atmosphere and cuisine. When we were settled, Gabrielle and I headed to a lovely little restaurant, and we couldn't believe what was playing sounded like traditional irish, 'fiddle-dee-dee' music, like what you'd hear on Galway Bay fm on a Sunday morning! They also played Elvis songs. We soon discovered that it was a karaoke bar too and the locals were not shy about singing aloud or dancing. Oh.. and they allowed cute little dogs inside too! After some delicious food we went and found a shop to get some snacks, it can seem a little daunting when your first experience of a place is at night, but we were fine. We then headed back to our little apartment for a good old cup of tea and kinder eggs! -Cara- |
