Up bright and early again to go for the short walk to catch our bus at Lidl. It wasn't before we got to our stop at Omnia college where Roope was waiting for us. We went to the editing room to get familiar with the Sony Vegas editing software which we will be using to edit the documentary we are making on the Saku Stars competition. In that room we had a team meeting and drew up a game plan for which events to prioritise, as there are many different events from chess, poetry and art to rap, dancing and drumming. Some events overlap and one day is twelve hours of events. After that we had a lovely potato bake lunch and headed to a talk in the auditorium, which we were very grateful for Roope to translate. We made the best of the sunny weather that we were not expecting (which is a delightful change from the relentless rain back in Ireland) by having a very Finnish barbeque, using some local sausage, bread, cheese and sauce which were delicious.

This morning we caught a bus to our college. We met with Yorke, one of the organisers of the Saku Stars competition and we also met with Roope. Roope is a friend of ours, whom we met when he was on his Erasmus+ placement in Galway Technical Institute last year.
Roope brought us on a tour around the main building of the Omnia college. We walked around the construction, horticulture, construction and fashion departments within the college, and were very impressed with the facilities and resources that the college provided. We visited the editing room and met with one of the editors who explained to us where his ideas for the design of Suku Stars merchandise came from. Roope also brought us to the equipment room and studio, where he explained to us how the college uses the facility. We then met with Yorke to discuss ideas for the competition. We learned more about the variety of talents that would take part in the competition and discussed how we would go about filming it. On our first day in Finland, we were to be up for 8:50 in the morning to be brought to the Omnia college. Our guide, Saara, was late meeting us but this was because she had to help with french students who had gotten lost the night before. We got a complimentary lunch because we waited without problem and then we set off with Saara for the college. She brought us to the bus stop and she gave us important information about getting transport around Espoo and Helsinki. Saara gave us a hand with getting our travel cards and then we went down to the college. We met with Leon who then brought us to meet Yorke, he is the man running the event that we're working on. He gave us the information we needed for working on the event, which would involve students from the college competing in karaoke/hip hop events. He showed us around the college some more afterward and then myself, Roisin, Cathal and Sean explored Espoo to see what it was like. It is a very nice looking place although it doesn't seem to be a prime spot for nightlife or shopping. We ate lunch and returned to our accommodation later that day.
