Thursday saw myself Amanda and Valentina start work with Queen Of The South Football Club at Broadwood stadium where they train. We met the team manager and he introduced us to the team physio. We were brought into the physio room where we met with some of the team. We got the chance to do massage treatments on members of the team which was a great experience. I had never worked in a football club environment before and I really enjoyed my first experience of it. It is a lot different to working in a salon as it is fast paced and less formal. We learnt various things such as learning how to crack someones back to release trapped gas, aswel as learning how to re align someones pelvis. One of the team members was injured in a game last Saturday where he had a fall and his pelvis was out of alignment and so the physio showed us how to re align it. We got to see the team in action training on the pitch which was a great experience, to see a professional football club in training action.
Friday saw us head off to the Glasgow campus of New College Lankashire where we worked in the Salon for the day. Upon arriving in the building it was impressive from the word go. All of the facilities at the college are outstanding. We made our way upto the spa where we were greeted by a very relaxed, tidy, professional enviroment. We all carried out various treatments throughout the day including Reflexology, Massage and Aromatherapy Massage. It was a great experience to work in a different salon, working with new people. We are all really enjoying our time in Glasgow and looking forward to the next two weeks.

I came to Glasgow with an air of apprehension and nervousness as it was my first trip abroad and being on my own I was concerned about the experience and meeting new people from different courses and classes.
My trip has been nothing that I would have thought of, it has been an amazing experience as I have fitted in with my new flat mates and class mates. I have made many new friends, it has been a truly awe inspiring experience!! On the first day after induction I went straight to the college salon and was introduced to my class mates and told about the course structure, in this class period I did a full perm. This activity developed my confidence and as I was up to speed with the class and re visited work for my career and examinations, we then worked in a barbaring class this was fantastic as I have always wanted to train in this area, I am convinced that I will do more in my future. On day two, I went into the next level up and meet new class mates, in this class I was introduced to the class product and the layout of the course work. we went to a bridal make up class this was fantastic as it was an new skill that I had never thought we would get to do, the salon layout is fantastic it ticks every box, all my class mates are so warm and welcoming it is amazing how nice people are!!! Day three, This was a new class and an open salon, I looked at the assessment criteria, I did a full head of highlights and chic style!!!, this teacher worked on my artistic skills, it was a tough class but I loved it! Arriving in Glasgow Sunday morning to Blue skies and sunshine was a delight for us all. Doughie McClean sang so fondly of Scotland in his famous song caledonia and upon arriving here it is clear to see why. A warm welcome awaited us all. Monday morning saw us brought down to the Glasgow campus of New College Lancashire were we were given an induction and shown around the campus which was an extremely impressive building. Myself Valentiaìna and Amanda were brought to our first placement which was in Wishaw, a place called Beechwood care home . Beechwood care home has 3 units which house and care for elderly people, people with Dementia and also people with brain related injuries. We spend Monday and Tuesday in beechwood interacting with the residents and giving hand and arm massages. Working in an envirnoment such as this one is challenging but it is very rewarding to be able to bring a smile to peoples faces. Being around people with dementia, people who cant walk or talk, people who cannot get out of bed really makes you realise just how precious life is and how we should enjoy every second we get.
Wedesday morning saw us start work in a new placement in Broadwood. Broadwood is a multi-use community stadium and sports complex situated in Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire, Scotland. Today we got the chance to work with students who are on the sports course here, we each got our own treatment room where we did massage treatments on various individuals. We had the chance to work with a lot of different bodies getting use to working with different types of sports people including those who play rugby, football, cyclists, badminton players and basketball players. A team called Queen of the South, train at the stadium and we are going to have the chance to work with them doing pre and post event massage which will be very interesting and an experience we are all looking forward to. We were given a tour of all of the facilities which were extremely impressive, especially the state of the art gym facilities. Work so far has been extremely enjoyable and we are learning a lot and getting to meet new people. It is good to work with different people from different backgrounds, it is a very rewarding experience. -Lewis, Valentina, Amanda- |
